One is a math whiz who also knows how to connect people; the other is known as a mature, selfless and reliable volunteer.

Marisa Gaetz and Josh Maricle-Roberts are the 2 Under 20 award winners, an honor that recognizes their leadership and potential to shape Central Minnesota.

Gaetz, a St. John’s Prep graduate now attending MIT, was known in high school for her leadership in sports, music and academics. She volunteered at St. Cloud Hospital and tutored other students. She is pursuing a math degree and hopes to inspire young scientists in Central Minnesota.

Maricle-Roberts is active in choir, theater, Nordic skiing, Knowledge Bowl, National Honor Society and the freshman orientation program at Apollo High School. He volunteers at a local library. He plans to attend Concordia College in Moorhead to become a teacher or researcher, so he can share his passion for history.

Runners up for 2 Under 20 honors are Daniel Sertich, Sauk Rapids-Rice High School; Hailey Lothert, Tech High School; and Audrey Nguyen, Tech High School.

All five will be honored along with the 5 Under 40 business leadership winners in a public event Jan. 24 at the Paramount Center for the Arts.

That event begins with a reception starting at 4:30 p.m. The award presentations will begin at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at

Times Media sponsors the awards with support from Falcon National Bank, HealthPartners Central Minnesota Clinic and the Initiative Foundation.
